I have been buying Minda Hills rams since 2007 and have consistently reached 145% lambing.
Last year I used Minda Hills rams for the first time over my hoggets and lambed at 100%.
This was the first time I had achieved this in the hoggets. They were lambing at the end of the storm and with snow still on the ground.
I find these sheep to be very weather savy and survive really well in adverse weather. Also their mothering ability is very good. This year I am expecting 175% in my 2THs. I got less than 1% dries in my flock and none in the 2THs.
One of the main benefits of using these rams is the increased productivity in the young stock. It’s also a real plus that I can deal directly with the owner-operators. I get the impression I am treated with the same respect as larger clients.
I farm at Ohakune at 535-560m above sea level
